13 markets, one afternoon: a localization playbook

How to take a finished screenshot set into every App Store region — scripts, RTL, and the strings people actually read.

Most developers localize their app and stop there — the listing stays English. But the listing is the first thing a shopper in Tokyo or Riyadh actually sees. Localized screenshots routinely lift conversion double digits in non-English storefronts, and the work is far smaller than it looks.

Translate the message, not the words

A headline that sings in English can fall flat translated literally. Keep the promise, rewrite the sentence. Watch length — German runs a third longer than English, Japanese a third shorter — and make sure your layout absorbs both without breaking.

The same screen in English, Japanese, and Arabic — note the mirrored RTL layout.

Right-to-left is a layout problem

Arabic and Hebrew don't just change the text — they mirror the reading direction. Alignment flips, chevrons flip, and numerals need care. Get RTL right and you stand out instantly in storefronts your competitors treat as an afterthought.
